me on monday: my favorite st pattys day memories

Fun fact about me:  St Patrick’s Day is my favorite holiday!

It all started when I was just a wee little lass and my parents dressed me up in this hilarious awesome outfit, complete with a leprechaun on my head.  Guess I was asking for it with a name like Casey Catherine McCormick.

My love for all things Irish solidified when I went off to Notre Dame for college (aka the Fighting Irish).  I was allowed to deck myself in green and shamrocks without judgement.  In fact it was encouraged!  [If only that cute little outfit still fit… I would have been the coolest kid in the dorm.]

And then in the spring of my Junior year, I studied abroad in Dublin.  It was incredible.  I loved living in Dublin… the Bulmers Cider… the Irish boys with accents… the shepherd’s pie… the countryside!  And celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Ireland?  Heck yes.

The year after graduation, I was lucky enough to spend St Patty’s in downtown Boston with some of my favorite friends.  Boston, as a city, truly enjoys this holiday as much as I do.  It was a really, really fun place to be!  [oh and please excuse my hair color… it was a phase.]

Flash forward to this year… John & I celebrated in St Paul, MN.  We started at a friends’ house for homemade corned beef and cabbage (YUM- thanks again Pat & Cindy!!) and then went to O’Garas.  The weather was heavenly.  And the people watching was fabulous.

What does next year have in store for us?  Who knows.  But I will say I can’t wait to be back at Notre Dame on 3.17.13!
