me on monday: colby’s birthday party!

Wow.  Look what I just found in my photo folder… Colby’s 3rd birthday party photos, already edited & prepped for my blog.  It seems like at some point over the last 3+ months, I got distracted and forgot to actually BLOG THEM!  [should I blame it on the move?  or the pregnancy?]  Either way, I feel like a terrible Mom.

So, let’s flash back… Colby turned 3 in March (he’s a St Pattys baby!)  We threw him a birthday party because, well, he’s our only child.  And because Colby is always looking for an excuse to invite over his sister, Katie.

Here’s my birthday boy!

A few photos of Colby waiting for his guests to arrive…

Years ago I visited a specialty dog bakery that made custom-ordered birthday cakes for dogs.  Since we were on a budget for this ‘party’, I decided to see if I could find a home-made recipe online.  Thank you, Pinterest!

Here’s Colby’s banana birthday cake with peanut butter frosting!  Recipe below…

The human-attendees enjoyed puppy chow, out of [CLEAN] dog bowls, but we all sampled the dog cake, out of curiosity.  It tasted like a very bland banana bread, but that didn’t stop the dogs from gobbling it up!

Banana & Peanut Butter Dog Cake!  [source:  meals & moves blog]

  • 2 overripe mashed bananas
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • 1//3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1 tsp baking power
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • ~1/4 cup water to thin the batter

Mix all ingredients & bake in a 9in cake pan at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.  Frost with a thin layer of peanut butter!
